Carpet

Carpet consists of two parts; the pile, which is the twisted strands of fibre that make up the surface of the carpet that you can see and feel, and the backing, which is the material that the pile is attached to and gives the carpet its strength and stretchability. Traditionally the pile is made from twisted or knotted wool but, modern carpet pile is also made from a synthetic fibre like polypropylene or nylon. The pile is dyed and cut and twisted in a certain way to create the look and style of the carpet.

Carpet is the softest floorcovering, especially when coupled with a quality underpad. The comfort of the soft surface is great for walking barefoot and lying or playing on the floor. This makes it the ideal choice for bedrooms, family rooms and rec rooms. The pile of the carpet brings more special properties, such as sound dampening, grip, which makes it perfect for stairs, and durability. Carpet by nature cannot be scratched which makes it ideal for pets to walk on, although it is prone to staining.
